Reading is one of the most important skills involved in language learning (the others are writing, listening and speaking): the literature of the country whose language is being studied is the primary source of texts for students and scholars of every level.
One of the most striking characteristics of written Italian is that it has changed relatively little over the centuries, so much so that Italians can read and understand many works belonging to Dante Alighieri's time and before.
Italian literature is rich in masterpieces which are studied and read in every country, and in modern times writers like Umberto Eco have added their intriguing books to the bestseller list.
The Accademia di Italiano has developed Italian for Literature courses designed for people who attend or have enrolled in Literature courses or for those who have a personal or professional interest in Literature. The aim of these courses is to help them enrich their vocabulary and improve their comprehension by selection of famous writers.
In addition to eventual topics of specific interest for each student, the course deals with the with History of Italian literature, genres styles, classical poems, famous novelists and poets plus selected readings.
The course concentrates on the study of the Italian language: the programme is the same as the Standard Italian Course of 20 lessons per week combined with 5 individual (5 every week) or 10 individual (10 every week) lessons.
