It is impossible to think of Opera without thinking of Italian, since it has always been considered the language of lyrical works. Italy is the Country which has given birth to the composers, directors and singers who have moved audiences in every corner of the world with the universal force of music and passion.
Milan is the home of la Scala, the most prestigious Opera theatre in the world, and it is the centre of Schools, Academies and Conservatories whose teachers have passed on the art of lyrical song to generations of students from all over the wold.
The Accademia di Italiano has developed Italian for Opera courses designed for foreign singers and for people who have a personal or professional interest in Opera. The aim of these courses is to help them gain the necessary vocabulary and terminology used in Opera, along with an insight into the history of Opera.
In addition to eventual topics of specific interest for each student, the course deals with the History of Opera, famous composers, directors and singers, arias and librettos. All supported by listenings of significant opera works.
The course concentrates on the study of the Italian language: the programme is the same as the Standard Italian Course (20 lessons per week) combined with 10 individual classes per week. At the same time, it focuses on tailor-made lessons created to meet the language needs of students and professionals of the Opera world.
